New LibGuides on Open Access Launched
Melody Herr has launched two new LibGuides in anticipation of Open Access Week (October 24-29). The first guide, Open Scholarship , serves as an introduction to all things open access; it’s sort of an umbrella glide which links to the other guides related to open access (e.g., Open Web, Open Education Resources). The second guide, Open Access, focuses primarily on open access publications, although it does point to other open access media.
Sierra Upgrade Planned for Fall Break
Beth Juhl reports that the next Sierra upgrade will occur on Tuesday morning, October 18th, at 7:30. We expect to be offline for approximately 90 minutes while the system is updated to Sierra 2.3.
Mark Your Calendars: Fall Convocation
Geoffrey Stark of the Staff Concerns Committee announces that the Fall Convocation (and costume contest) will occur on Monday, October 31 in the Staff Lounge. In case you want to spend more than five minutes planning your costume. We haven’t quite decided on a time yet, so we’ll keep you updated.
Kalli is Gone (and I’m still grieving)
Kalli Vimr left us for Charlotte, North Carolina, where there are riots and curfews, so I hope she is happy. Howsomever, I’ve been left in charge of the public relations office and activities until a new public relations coordinator is hired. As you can imagine, there is a large gap between everything that Kalli took care of and my knowledge about said activities. So I’m asking for your help. If you see something being neglected, or you wonder, “What ever became of _________?” or “Why hasn’t anyone done __________ for three weeks (the time since Kalli left),” then would you please let me know?
Computer Tech Tip
Elaine Roser asks, “Know about LYNDA.com? It is a collection of hundreds of training modules, and the campus subscribes so we can create individual accounts at no cost to faculty, staff, or students. LYNDA.com has an excellent Windows 10 Essential Training video:

Shout Out (n.) Informal. A message of congratulation, support, or appreciation.
Molly Boyd gives a shout out to Ila Irizarry and Martha Guirl-Phillips, who took care of logistical details and problems for two big events on back-to-back days last week seamlessly and without complaint. Ladies, you take a load off my back, and I am grateful.
Melody Herr gives a shout out to The Open Access Group, who assisted her in creating the two new LibGuides.
Reminders and Such:
- Please remember to COPY the person or people who are serving as your back-ups in your out-of-office emails to me. It provides not only an excellent last minute confirmation for you, but is also a handy way for me to procure the contact info that I add to each entry. Thank you!
