On July 12, the World Wide Web Foundation, the American Library Association, and hundreds of other organizations and companies come together to defend net neutrality in a Day of Action.
Historically, as taxpayer-funded inventions, the Internet and World Wide Web belong to all of us. But soon, proposed changes in net neutrality legislation in the United States may alter the founding principles of the Internet, and as a result, the speed of your Internet connection and your access to information spaces online may change.
At noon on Wednesday, July 12, in Giffels Auditorium in Old main U of A librarians Michelle Gibeault and Stephanie Pierce will present a brief talk detailing one aspect of net neutrality, Zero Ratings. After the talk, attendees are invited to bring their questions and comments for broader discussion of Internet governance and its relationship to free expression.
