October 19 – 25 is International Open Access Week, an annual worldwide effort to raise awareness of initiatives to make research materials more readily available. SHARE provides a tool to help you identify research made available in the growing open environment.

SHARE is collaborative project sponsored by the The Association of Research Libraries (ARL),  the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU).   SHARE aims to maximize the impact of scholarly research by building a free, open data set of research publications and activities.

SHARE Notify is a current awareness tool that generates a feed of “research release events.”  “Events” might include the launch of a new institutional repository, the availability of a new research data set, or the publication of an open access article.

Contributors to SHARE Notify include many libraries on the DigitalCommons Institutional Repository platform from bepress, the same software that will be used in the forthcoming IR for the University of Arkansas.  Universities whose data are already available in SHARE Notify include: Arizona State University, University of California, Carnegie Mellon, Harvard, University of Iowa, University of Texas, and Washington University.  Content is also harvested from the U.S. Department of Energy, the Smithsonian, the CrossRef coalition of scholarly publishers, BioMed Central, ArXiv, and PubMed Central.

The SHARE Notify database can be searched or browsed for topics of interest in your research area. You can also save your search terms as an RSS feed for future alerts.
