The University Libraries are now seeking applicants to the Graduate Student Speaker Series for the Fall 2022 semester. Honorariums of $200 are provided for each speaker, and graduate students from all disciplines are welcome to apply.
The series began in 2018 as a collaborative effort between the libraries and the Graduate School and International Education. It affords graduate students the opportunity to present research or creative work they have done using materials from the Libraries’ Special Collections division and get feedback from the community as they continue their professional development. Sessions are recorded and uploaded to YouTube, and links to the recordings may be included on resumes or curricula vitae.
“Current students or recent grads should participate in the series because it is a fantastic introduction to the world of conferences and presenting research,” said Samuel Ownbey, who presented during the Spring 2020 semester. “Participating in the series helped me develop my public speaking and presentation skills and made me feel more confident about participating in future speaking engagements.”
Special Collections supports the research, teaching and learning mission of the U of A by collecting, preserving and providing access to unique and rare materials.
