The Athenizer: Links that WorkEveryone’s off-campus these days.  Make sure your students and colleagues have access to library content from anywhere by using our  Athenizer and other tips for creating persistent links.

Athenizing: Linking to Articles and Chapters

The Libraries have switched off-campus authentication from our old proxy server to OpenAthens.  To share direct links to articles, book chapters, and other content, you will want to Athenize them so that remote users can authenticate with their UARK email account and password.

To Athenize your link:

  1. Look for a permalink, share, DOI, or cite icon: the location of this can vary by database or publisher.
  2. Copy that link.
  3. To make the link work for off-campus user, paste it into the Athenizer (OpenAthens link generator) at https://uark.libguides.com/openathens/links
  4. Copy the resulting link and test it.
  5. Link doesn’t work?  Please Ask us and we’ll help you construct a working permalink.

Have an old, proxied link?  The Athenizer should work for that, as well.

Linking to Ebsco, ProQuest, Gale, and Kanopy content

Note that these providers are not Athenized. Instead, these providers use a customer id in the links to direct you to our account; just be sure these strings are in your links.

  • Ebsco
    • &custid=s8428489&authtype=ip,sso
    • example: https://search.ebscohost.com/direct.asp?db=a9h&jid=6MS&scope=site&custid=s8428489&authtype=ip,sso
    • Use the Permalink function in Ebsco to copy links easily.
  • ProQuest
  • ProQuest E-Books
    • uark-ebooks
    • example: https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/uark-ebooks/detail.action?docID=5101446
    • Use the share / link icon  ProQuest E-book Central to copy links easily.
  • Gale
    • faye28748 or younglaw
    • example: https://go.galegroup.com/ps/i.do?id=GALE%7C9780684316307&v=2.1&u=faye28748&…
    • Use the Cite icon in Gale databases to copy links easily.
  • Kanopy
    • uark.kanopy.com
    • Example: https://uark.kanopy.com/video/seventh-seal
    • Just copy the video URL inside of Kanopy

Have an old proxied link to Ebsco, ProQuest, Gale, or Kanopy?  Use our deproxifer to remove that string.

Linking to Library Databases

From our Databases A-Z page, locate the database you wish to share and use the share icon to grab a copy of the permalink.  You can also email the link directly from the share icon.
