Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with the Libraries! This year’s theme is Honoring Indigenous Identity and Culture

Arkansas is home to many Indigenous peoples and sits on the lands of the Caddo, Quapaw, and Osage. Upon the forced removal of Native Americans from other areas, the Cherokee, Choctaw, and Chickasaw would also come to Arkansas. Today, there are 7.4 million American Indian and Alaska Natives living in the United States, 325 federally recognized reservations, 221 Alaska Native villages, and 574 federally recognized tribes (United States Census Bureau, 2024).
