Undergraduate Research Week is set for April 21-25, with the theme “Generating Excitement About Research.” The University Libraries and Honors College have partnered to create a series of events aimed at enhancing undergraduate students’ research skills and connecting them with the resources and guidance they need to succeed.

“Discoveries made through research at the University of Arkansas lead to innovations that shape industries, improve quality of life and address global challenges,” said Jason Battles, dean of libraries. “Participating in research activities can provide hands-on experience, develop critical thinking skills, deepen students’ understanding of their fields and prepare them for the workforce. We’re excited to help U of A students improve our world and stand out as future job applicants.”

The week’s activities will include panel discussions, one where students can gain insight from their peers on navigating the research process and another with graduate students to learn how their current research can fuel future academic endeavors. A third panel discussion will provide opportunities to connect with faculty members and get involved undergraduate research.

Several workshops throughout the week will provide hands-on guidance for students looking to improve their research skills. Topics include the fundamentals of research, identifying and developing research topics and finding quality sources.

Students can also receive one-on-one support with citation management and research assistance.

Two events specifically for Honors College students will provide guidance on submitting Honors theses to the university’s institutional repository, ScholarWorks@UARK.

A highlight of the week will be the annual Research Symposium, featuring poster and paper competitions. The campus community is invited to discover the depth and creativity of undergraduate research with projects representing fields across campus.
