Milholen at PTSCDylan Milholen is a student in the Dale Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food, and Life Sciences. Milholen is from Hot Springs, AR, and is a senior studying Environmental, Soil, and Water Sciences. He is interested in the transport and the transformation of chemicals and pollutants in the environment and has a keen interest in soil and water relationships using cutting edge analytical chemistry screening techniques.

During the summer of 2015, he received the CAFLS travel award to conduct research in Pelotas, Brazil at UFPel in an analytical biochemistry lab. He currently serves as the Dale Bumpers College Ambassador for the Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences.

Milholen plans to conduct research, publish, and author ‘popular’ books on science, and to shoot an online video series over general science and philosophy discussions. He will work in the Environmental sector for three years before enrolling in a PhD program studying Environmental Chemistry.

Libraries do transform. Not only as entities in and of themselves, but also the lives of the people who take advantage of them. My time as a student at the University of Arkansas, spanning over 5 years, is brimming over with my own story of transformation. Subsequently, I am a person who now takes full advantage of Mullins Library. Two of the main resources at the University Libraries that helped facilitate my transformation are: 1). abundant access to science journals, and 2). study space like individual study carrels and group study rooms.

Access to Curtting Edge Research

Not only does the Libraries’ website provide access to journals ranging in topics from Astrophysics to Zoology, but Mullins Library houses a vast collection of scientific journals in hard copy on its shelves. This immediate access to cutting edge research has facilitated my personal growth and Mullins’ resources have helped me better understand my field and current scientific research.

The Libraries website makes it simple to find hard copies of journals. For instance, it’s easy to find my favorite journal Nature with a quick title search. Journals on the shelves have a unique call number, making them easy to find. The periodicals room tends to have more popular journals, readers can take those into the reading room to enjoy in the quite space.

Study Carrels and Group Study Rooms

The individual study carrels in Mullins Library transformed the way I study. In my first years at the University, I would often study at my house. Although pleasant, typically it’s not conducive to the most efficient study mode. Taking advantage of the carrels at Mullins allowed me to form better study habits and get more accomplished.

Similarly, group study rooms have transformed the way I study with my peers. Group study rooms have assisted in collaboration, while enhancing our study experience with white boards and technology. These rooms are great for groups in any major or course looking to enhance collaborative learning. (Use the Libraries’ online service to reserve a room.)

In closing, libraries do transform. They are a great privilege that should be taken advantage of by all people with access to them. Under the roof of libraries, the human mind shall never be lacking fresh nourishment.
