Level 4 Updates
It’s a Tale of Two Cultures this week as work continues on the west side of  Level 4 with call numbers P (literature and language) and Q (science).

Here are some specialized ebook collections in these areas you may not know about!

Birds of North America Online provides scientific information for each of the 716 species of birds nesting in the USA and Canada, with image and video galleries showing behaviors, habitats, nests, eggs and nestlings, and recordings of birds’ songs and calls selected from the collection in Cornell’s Macaulay Library of Natural Sounds. Species accounts include references to relevant scholarship. BNA includes contributions from U of A professors Kimberly Smith (Red-headed Woodpecker, Pine Warbler, Blue Jay) and Douglas James (Indian Peafowl, Common Myna), among others.

Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) offers all the books printed in the UK from 1701 to 1800, with almost 200,000 volumes from all fields of inquiry.  Early English Books Online (EEBO) offers books printed in England from the beginning of printing up until 1700. Between these two resources, you have an entire rare books library at your fingertips!

From Alexander Street Press, the Libraries have several different collections of African American literature, including Black Drama, Black Short Fiction and Folklore, and Black Women Writers.  These texts are indexed in several novel ways; beyond simple keyword searching, you can explore by facets such as time period or place and the birthplace, ethnicity, or gender of the author.

We look forward to taking up residence in our new storage facility soon, from which we will be able to deliver items several times each day.
