On December 16, 2025, ProQuest Ebook Central will transition to a new app for offline reading / ebook checkout. The new Ebook Central Reader App provides a secure, accessible and modern reading experience for full-book downloads, replacing Adobe Digital Editions. Built specifically for both mobile and desktop, it is available for desktop Windows and Mac OS as well as Android and iOS. The new reader app takes advantage of the EPUB format, which will gradually replace PDF for offline reading.
You will still have the option for reading online or downloading a limited number of pages or chapters at a time. It, however, you wish to download the full ebook, you will need to install the new app. Book download limits or “check outs” are set by the publisher and are usually 1, 7, or up to 21 days at a time.
To download the new app, connect to Ebook Central and sign into your account. Select the Download option on the full books page and follow the instructions to install the app and authorize up to 6 devices for offline reading. Making the Switch to EPUB Format
If you already have existing exports, annotations, or notes saved in PDF format, you will continue to access the content in PDF format. New titles will default to EPUB for a more accessible experience.
You will be able to switch between formats if a book is available in both EPUB and PDF. A new toggle feature will be available in the Ebook Central Online Reader, allowing users to seamlessly switch between EPUB and PDF formats
Books Already on Your Bookshelf
If you have active downloads or items saved in their Bookshelf, there should be no disruption. Existing downloads and bookshelf items will remain in the format originally selected, and useyou can continue to access these materials as usual until the loan period expires.
