If you are a frequent searcher in the CINAHL nursing database you may have noticed a new link on some citations, the PlumX Plum Print widget.
PlumX Analytics provide new ways to measure scholarly impact by looking at social media shares and mentions and saves to citation managers such as Mendeley. While the University of Arkansas does not subscribe to PlumX Analytics as a research tool, you can use the Plum Print widget in CINAHL to get an idea of the kinds of metrics being tracked.
How it works
When viewing a results list in CINAHL, look for the Plum Print widget and icon:
Mouse over the link to see the overall Usage on Ebsco (views or full text and abstract), the Captures (exports from Ebsco and saves to Mendeley) and the Citations (times cited) in various sources.
Click the see details link to view the full record for the article at the PlumX site.
Other metrics tracked by PlumX include Mentions on blogs and Social Media tweets and shares.
CINAHL is currently the only Ebsco database offering Plum Print widgets, but look for this feature to be added to more resources in the coming months.
