Reminder: Amy Allen Presentation TODAY
On Tuesday, November 7, the Open Access Group will host a presentation by Amy Allen, University Archivist, who will discuss her article recently published in the Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication: “Lessons Learned in Partnerships and Practice: Adopting Open Source Institutional Repository Software.” The article covers events that led up to the establishment of the Institutional Repository and the successes and shortcomings along the way. The presentation will take place from 3-4 p.m. in Mullins 104.

Argyle Day
Kathleen Lehman, Head of User Services, would like to invite all library personnel and friends to join in a celebration of Argyle Day, Friday, November 17. Celebrating is simple: just wear your favorite argyle patterned item(s) of clothing! (Please ignore anything which claims Argyle Day is in January; we were celebrating in November way before it was cool.)

Greenland Expedition Presentation with Jon Carlson
Jon Carlson, the distance education graduate assistant will be giving a presentation and showing his short film on Tuesday, November 28 in room 104 at 2 pm. He was involved in the Greenland expedition recently featured in Newswire as a filmmaker/photographer. He will be talking about his role in the expedition and the resulting film, which will be his master’s thesis project. His summary is below.

Down the Arctic Drain: A Documentary Thesis Project by Jonathon N Carlson, Distance Education Graduate Assistant

During the summer of 2017, four geosciences researchers and a journalism graduate student took part in an expedition to the Greenland Ice Sheet to study how glacier melt and movement involves moulins: sheer waterfalls thousands of feet deep inside the ice. Over the course of 25 days, the team would battle the elements and their own limits to collect their data and realize their goal. The presentation will include the premiere of a 14-minute short film on the expedition.

FYI: iCAN
Arkansans have access to the iCAN resources, which include assistive technologies for work or personal use. The services offered by iCAN are available to all Arkansans, regardless of age, geographic area, disability, income or eligibility for any other service. The AT Reuse program is in the service of reclaiming and redistributing previously owned Assistive Technology and Durable Medical Equipment to ensure that the equipment is being used for the full value of its lifecycle. This service could be helpful in avoiding medical costs by borrowing durable medical equipment instead of having to rent it.

Shout Out (n.) Informal. A message of congratulation, support, or appreciation.
Charles Sabo gives a shout out to the Staff Concerns committee members and others who helped out with the Fall Convocation: Olivia Wood, Jeremy Smith, Janelle Prater, Renee Tobin, Judy Robinson, Todd Lewis, Brian Curtis, and Tony Stankus. The event would not have been what it was without their contributions.
