The Statistics “Data Farm” is now a StaffGuide
Usage data for Electronic Resources, ILL statistics, library annual reports and statistics, and more can now be viewed on the Statistics “Data Farm” StaffGuide. We’re planning on posting more circulation data, age of collection reports, and more. We also plan to leverage the power of LibInsight to build multiyear data visualizations, reports, and dashboards.
Have an idea for a data set? Have some hidden data lying around? Send your comments and suggestions for additions to libweb@uark.edu.
Physics and Chemistry Libraries using VDI
As of last Wednesday, both the Physics and Chemistry libraries have exchanged PC workstations for VDI terminals. This will give students access to all of the university’s enterprise software, including some that were installed specifically for those locations. Feel free to drop by those branches and look them over.
Congrats, Michelle!
English & Communication Librarian Michelle Gibeault will be participating in Fayetteville’s Digital Inclusion Task Force. The task force is charged with creating a Digital Inclusion Plan within approximately two years.
Donor Relations Rocks! A note from Rachel Krest, Director of Development
There’s a saying in development that your best donor is your last donor. And while that seems a little crass, it’s very important to maintain relationships with people who care enough to provide financial support to our Libraries, not only in the hopes that stewardship may cultivate additional giving, but also because it’s just the right thing to do.
Recently, I met with a long-time donor to the Libraries and during our visit, the donor reminisced about his master’s thesis and how the last time he visited the library, the map he’d created (he’s a geologist) was sadly gone from the copy that was housed in the stacks. He told me how he had painstakingly hand drawn the map from photographs and field notes from his research; I could tell he was sad the map was missing. I left the meeting wondering what the best next step should be, and decided to do a little digging regarding his thesis. That’s where this story gets interesting, as a little “library magic” ensued.
Because the donor was also interested in ScholarWorks, I reached out to Melody Herr to see if it was possible to publish his thesis on the Institutional Repository. She sprang into action and found a copy of the thesis that had been stored in Special Collections…with the map intact! Because of the fine work of Melody and Cedar Middleton from the IR, Lori Birrell and the Special Collections team, Martha Parker and the Digital Services team, as well as Molly Boyd with her top-notch printer, we not only have a wonderful digital copy of all parts of the thesis to be uploaded, there are beautiful hard copies of the written materials and the lost-but-found map. When I told the donor this, he got a little choked up, and I cannot wait to give him this special gift. Thanks for all the wonderful teamwork, colleagues!
Staff Senate Update
Toward the end of this month, everyone will be receiving their W2 forms via snail mail.
If you elected to use the Blue Cross/Blue Shield dental plan and have not received your card or your card was incorrect, BC/BS will be sending those as quickly as they can. If you have an appointment coming up, contact campus HR, and they can give you a temporary card.
