Reminder: Mandatory Training
What is Discriminatory Harassment?
Presented by Toya Williams, Associate Director/Compliance Officer, Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance
Mullins Library, Room 104
Tuesday, March 27, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.

This mandatory training will explain different types of workplace harassment to include what behavior and materials constitute sexual harassment.

We will be offering additional sessions throughout the year in order minimize conflicts with class schedules and department staffing. Please be sure to free up your employees, so they can attend one of the sessions. Employees are authorized to come in outside of their regularly scheduled time to attend this important training. Hourly and work-study employees will need to clock in for the session, and classified staff will need to record this time as work time on their timesheets.

Brainiacs, Beware
One of the things we as librarians ought to be aware of is the number of invitations to contribute to sketchy Open Access journals that are clogging in-boxes on the emails of our students and faculty… some of whom may unwisely send in a paper, only to be later charged some enormous sum to have it published, and despite its claims that paper may actually never have been refereed or would be indexed in a reputable database. Foreign graduate students and brand new faculty are often the most susceptible to these deceptive appeals to publish because they feel it presents them with an unexpected golden opportunity that will enable them to stay longer in the country on a student visa or to quickly build up their CV.

Today’s e-mail featured an invitation to Tony to please contribute “one of his most expert papers” to the Journal of Buffalo Science, an Egyptian publication…..

Tony notes: “These guys are really smart! However did they ever figure out that some of my writing is indeed scientific bull…..?????”

Shout Out (n.) Informal. A message of congratulation, support, or appreciation.
Amy Allen gives a Shout Out to Heath Robinson, Marei Houpert, Joshua Youngblood, Adam Hein, Katrina Windon, Geoffery Stark, Isaac Watkins, Rock Capone, Kat Williams and Julia Paganis, who worked in shifts to move 90 boxes from Mullins to LISA and about 80 extra large boxes from LISA to Mullins. She really appreciates the help!

Sustainability Tip of the Week
Why waste money on plastic containers? You can re-use glass containers for free! Next time you’re about to throw away that pickle jar, burned-out candle, or other type of reusable storage, consider cleaning it and saving it for future use. If you have no use for it, try to recycle.
