Special Collections Receives its Largest Grant to Date
Angela Fritz, Interim Head of Special Collections, reports that Special Collections has been awarded a $73,989 grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission to process the James D. We’re On the Leading Edge: UARK Concert Recordings Now Online
Tim Zou, Head of Performing Arts and Media, reports that the Libraries now have 170 in house concert recordings available online – listeners can hear them anywhere, anytime – putting the Libraries on the list of just a few academic libraries in the country to stream institutional concert recordings. Concerts were previously archived in Performing Arts and Media on CDs. Since 2013, all concert recordings with a copyright consent form signed by performers and the Music Department are also digitally archived. Rachel Paul, Supervisor of Performing Arts and Media, is instrumental in cataloging and processing the files. The U of A concert streaming project is a collaboration of the Music Department and the University Libraries and you can use this quick search form to search and listen. Great job, Tim and Rachel!
Celebrate International Women’s Day by Touring Women’s Studies Offerings Online
Beth Juhl, Web Services Librarian, posted “Discovering Women’s Studies” on Database News today. The post introduces readers to a wealth of online academic journal articles, statistical compendiums, government documents, and primary sources to support research. Some of the topics and subject areas Juhl touches on include: Psychology and Communication, Anthropology and Sociology, Literature and the Arts, History and Political Science, and more. One fascinating angle, Mintel provides reports on how consumer goods are marketed to women. Juhl’s post links readers to over a dozen resources. Thank you, Beth!
And Just a Bit More Women’s History from the LOC!
Judy Ganson, Director for Collection Management Services and Systems, shares a resource from the Library of Congress: Experiencing War, Women at War: Stories from the Veterans History Project. From the site: “Chosen from among the thousands of collections of women’s experiences in the Veterans History Project, this modest selection spans four wars. While many of the collections are nurses’ tales, there is also the story of a code breaker, a welder, and a flight surgeon, plus two women who rose through the ranks to secure places in the military history books.” Thank you, Judy!
Building the Museum – Edward Durell Stone’s Museo de Arte de Ponce
Catherine Wallack, Architectural Records Archivist, reports that the Museo de Arte de Ponce will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary inside a Durell Stone design with an exhibition that shows his design process. The Museo de Arte de Ponce is located on Las Americas Avenue in Ponce, Puerto Rico and houses a collection of European art, as well as work by Puerto Rican artists. The exhibit, a selection of architectural drawings that have never before been seen together, including many facsimiles from the Edward Durell Stone Papers in the Arkansas Architectural Archives, opens to the public on March 13. Awesome news, Cat!
