Special Collections Featured in Cold War Games
Image of the Cold War Games Book CoverVera Ekechukwu and Geoffrey Stark were acknowledged in a new book, Cold War Games: Propaganda, Olympics, and US Foreign Policy by Toby C. Rider. We already know that our archivists are patient and congenial (as noted in Rider’s acknowledgement) but they also excel at all levels of customer service. And our Special Collections had a hand in showing “how the US government used the Olympics to promote democracy and its own policy aims during the tense early phase of the Cold War.” Excellent job, Vera and Geoffrey!

Whispers from Another Time on View Now in Mullins
An image of Cathy Padgett's Caretaker's Cottage PhotographIn celebration of Arkansas Heritage Month, the Libraries present “Whispers from Another Time,” photographs by Cathy D. Padgett, on view in Mullins through July. Padgett’s photographs focus on the things people leave behind as they journey across time and landscape. The places Padgett photographs are relics of an earlier era, stuck in the process of decay – abandoned houses, old country stores, churches, or one-room schoolhouses – all across Arkansas. For more information about Padgett and her work, please visit her website at cathy-padgett.squarespace.com. Padgett’s site has an email link so that you can inquire about purchasing prints, or even suggest a place that you think she should photograph. Please direct questions or inquires to Martha Guirl-Phillips at 5-6702. Great exhibit, Martha!

“A BIG SHOUT OUT TO: Julie Thacker, for spending over 160 hours training a neophyte in the joys and challenges of serials cataloging with such patience and clarity. And to Cody Hackett, while in the midst of learning the duties associated with your new role, you’ve been able to synthesize the nebulous flow of e-serials information into a logical sequence to be able to train others. While you may deny it, you are a gifted trainer/teacher who is able to pinpoint when a pupil doesn’t ‘get it’.  Of course, the vacant stare from your trainee may give it away.  Many thanks for your patience.” –submitted by Judy Robinson. Thanks Judy, Julie, and Cody! (This is a new, semi-regular feature for the Tuesday Times. Let your colleagues know how much you appreciate them by giving them a shout out in the next Tuesday Times.)
