CNN Hillary Clinton Documentary Features Special Collections Materials

CNN will air a documentary on Hillary Clinton on September 5 (times not yet published). The documentary will feature materials from the Diane Blair Papers as well as the University Archives. In addition to engaging in extensive research in Special Collections, CNN was also onsite this summer to film an interview with Jim Blair in the Walton Reading Room which will be also included in the documentary.

Celebrate the Implementation of Quick Search

Although the new search box on the Libraries’ homepage may have seemed to just pop up there a couple of weeks ago, the implementation of QuickSearch took months of research, planning, and lots of technical know-how behind the scenes. In case you haven’t heard yet, QuickSearch allows simultaneous and interdisciplinary search of books, manuscript collections, and items in databases. To acknowledge all of the hard work that went into the implementation of this new search tool and all of the personnel who performed that hard work, please join us for some refreshments in the Staff Break Room on Friday, September 2. The refreshments will be available on a drop-in basis from 10 a.m. to noon, and the dean will make some remarks at 10:30 a.m. A hearty “well done” to the Summon Implementation Task Force and all of the Libraries’ personnel who worked on this project.

Three Weird Questions with Katrina Windon

Katrina Windon

Katrina Windon

Katrina Windon is the Accessioning and Processing Archivist in Special Collections, which she explains means she will be helping to bring in new collections, to establish basic intellectual control over them, to evaluate the level of processing they need, and to perform some minimal processing of collections. Before coming to the University of Arkansas, Katrina worked at the University of Nevada, Reno as a photograph archivist within the Art Department. She has also worked for a consortium of Oregon universities on the Oregon Governors’ Papers Project. Katrina has lived in a few different states (including Texas, where I went to UT-Austin for graduate school, and Alabama, where I grew up and did my undergraduate study), but this is her first time living in Arkansas, and, she says, “I’m excited to get to know the area and its history!”

As a part of her initiation, we asked Katrina to answer three weird questions: 1) Name one short term goal? Answer: To try every coffee shop in Northwest Arkansas. [worthy] 2) What’s the best live entertainment you’ve ever seen? Answer: That’s a tough call—it’s probably tied between a performance of Man of La Mancha at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and a fiddle festival in Serbia.3) What’s your favorite guilty pleasure when it comes to candy? Answer: Huckleberry pretzels [unexpected]. There you have it, Katrina Windon in a (weird) nutshell!

Computer Tip: Back up Your Files

Elaine Roser from Libraries IT reminds everyone to back up your files, don’t lose your work. It is a great time to back up your files and save your back up now that new computers are being deployed. The best back up method is to a non-volatile media such as a CD – if you have large data files you can back up to a DVD. Please call Library IT at 5-7990 if you would like assistance.
