Three Weird Questions with Julia Paganis
Julia Paganis is the new graduate assistant for Library Services and will be assisting undergraduates with their research processes. She will work on projects and data analysis with a focus on the College of Education, Fulbright College, and the Walton College of Business. Originally from Tulsa, Julia spent her past four years at Baylor University, majoring in Psychology. She is currently completing her Master’s in Counseling but has doctoral aspirations and hopes to eventually open a private practice. Julia kindly took the time to answer three weird questions: (1) My first concert was Bruce Springsteen with my dad in 2000. He won the award for best dad for putting me up on his shoulders the whole time since I couldn’t see a thing. (2) My guilty pleasure when it comes to candy is Reese’s! (3) My favorite Halloween costume was a bunch of grapes. I covered myself in purple balloons and crafted a green stem hat. I couldn’t sit down and had a difficult time making it through crowds, but I enjoyed the reactions I got!
REMINDER: Open Access Week Events!
Open access is a movement that aims to make materials freely available on the internet through the use of creative commons licensing which allow users to read, download, copy, share, print, or use them for any other lawful purpose. The Libraries are hosted the following events in celebration of Open Access Week 2016:
- All Week – Open Coloring Book: Support open access by submitting U of A related drawings to be included in an open access coloring book. The coloring book will be featured during finals week study breaks hosted by the University Libraries (and also available for free download in ScholarWorks). To participate, please send your drawing and submission form as an email attachment to Stephanie Pierce at sjpierc@uark.edu and include “Coloring Book Submission” in the subject line. All submissions of work by the creator’s consent will be included in the Institutional Repository, ScholarWorks.
- Wednesday, October 26 , 3:00-4:00 MULN 104 – Author’s Rights: Understanding and Using Your Rights under US Copyright Law. As an author, you own a number of rights to your work. Come to this workshop to learn about those rights and strategies for managing them. This workshop will emphasize copyright, Creative Commons licenses, and open access addenda for publishing agreements(will be repeated on Thursday, Nov. 3, 3:00 pm).
- Thursday, October 27, 2:00-4:00 MULN 102 – Create a SelectedWorks Account: Melody Herr and Cedar Middleton will host drop in sessions for creating a SelectedWorks account in ScholarWorks@uark.edu, the new institutional repository. A SelectedWorks account allows an author to create and manage his or her own page in the institutional repository to showcase research output, scholarship, and creative works, to measure the impact of their work, and download reports. No registration is required; drop-ins are welcome at any time during the two-hour open sessions. (Repeated Tuesday, Nov 1 2:00-4:00 pm).
