Katrina Windon Featured in Newswire
A new University Libraries Spotlight series highlights the work of one of our librarians each month. Read Katrina’s story here, and email Kelsey Lovewell Lippard if you have interest in being the subject of a future University Libraries Spotlight story.

Shout Out (n.) Informal. A message of congratulation, support, or appreciation.
Olivia Wood gives a shout out to Carrol Warriner, the rest of the acquisitions department, and cataloging. “I haven’t been doing course reserves for very long, but I know I wouldn’t be nearly 1/10 as efficient without these awesome people ordering books for us and getting them processed as quickly as they do so that I can send them out to the shelves for our students and faculty.”

Call for Authors: Developing a Curriculum to Advance Library-Based Publishing
The Library Publishing Coalition presents a very exciting opportunity to participate in the development of a curriculum for library publishing. Details here.

Mullins Library Bulletin Board
Library employees may request to join the Mullins Library Bulletin Board Facebook group, a place to discuss all things non-work-related.

LibAnswers “Systems Status” Tool
We’re using a new module within LibAnswers to communicate current issues, upgrades, and fixes for e-resources and services.  You may have noticed it on the lower right of the main StaffWeb page.

From there, you can navigate to the full page to view recent posts for all services.

From that page, you’ll also see a link to report any issues to the Technical Services LibAnswers queue.  You can still use the catalog error, Find it! error and any other error forms.

Reminder: Invitation to Open Education Week Planning Meeting
The plans for Open Education Week (March 27-31) are taking shape! We need your help to make the week of success, so please join us at the next Open Access Group meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 3 p.m. in Mullins 486. So far, our plans include:

  • A poll to discover what students currently pay for textbooks
  • Training sessions for instructors on technical tools for using open education resources
  • Publicity of all sorts, including blogs, tweets, Facebook posts and podcasts
  • Live chat among faculty, staff and students on the most effective types of material, relative costs for materials, and access to print and online materials

During the Jan. 31 meeting, we will share ideas for recruiting participants for the live chat, the blogs, tweets, posts, and podcasts. We will also make a list of questions and discussion topics for these activities. Please come. Your ideas are welcome!
