Popcorn and a movie: In 1966, the Arno River flooded Florence, Italy, damaging and destroying millions of books, art, and other cultural materials. Italian director Franco Zeffirelli rushed to Florence and filmed in the city following the flood. His documentary, Florence: Days of Destruction, is narrated by Richard Burton, and gives a first-hand look at the disaster. While devastating, the flood prompted the fields of preservation and conservation in institutions worldwide to develop emergency response plans.

Friday | 4/28 | 10-11 a.m. | MULN 486

Webinar: “Creating Scrapbooks that Last” – presented by the Northeast Document Conservation Center

Meet Director of Development Rachel Krest
Rachel Krest is a development professional who believes successful fundraising on all levels begins with meaningful relationships. She uses her English/creative writing degree every day and is honored to work for the Libraries at her alma mater; but, when she’s not working for higher ed, you can find her serving a higher power as pastor for a small congregation in northern Arkansas, crafting handmade greeting cards at her home in Winslow, or crushing it on the golf course with her husband, Kevin.

Three Weird Questions:

  1. What is the first concert you attended?

My first concert was, and I can’t believe I’m admitting this, Ronnie Milsap.

  1. If you could close your eyes and be anywhere on earth when they opened, where would you be?

Please let me go to Neptune Beach, Florida.

  1. What’s the best live entertainment you’ve ever seen?

Ronnie Milsap. Joke! James Taylor and Carole King, in their first Troubadour Reunion concert, was hands down the best live entertainment I’ve ever seen.

The best thing about being a fundraiser for a university is learning about the amazing projects, programs and research going on, and Rachel can’t wait to broaden her knowledge specifically about the Libraries.
