Dr. Rigoberta Menchú Delivers the 2015 Winthrop Rockefeller Distinguished Lecture
Dr. Menchú stopped by Mullins Library yesterday morning to speak to students and answer questions before her lecture yesterday evening. Phil Jones and Jonathan Torres manned a book display of relevant library holdings, and Martha Parker, Digital Services Librarian, translated the bilingual event. If you missed it, feel free to visit the Facebook photo album to catch a peak of this very well-attended talk, or read about it online. (Martha Parker also had an opportunity to walk with Dr. Menchú on the Trail of Tears walk for Indigenous Peoples’ Day Monday – you can check out a photo of that event at the Libraries’ blog.)

“Find a Topic” in America’s News
Beth Juhl’s latest Database News blog post is online. Did you know you can read the Dem-Gazette through America’s News database? With news sources from 55 states and territories, you can quickly find local coverage of current events and opinion nationwide. While there is some coverage back to 1978, most papers date from the late 1990s. Check out the blog post to learn more about searching by keyword and a new feature called “Find a Topic,” which provides predefined searches.

Website Conversion Update and Catalog Alerts
Beth Juhl reports that the conversion of the all main library website pages from the old template to the new look is now complete. Thank you, Dylan (and Arthur), for giving us this fresh new look that works on all screen sizes! Dylan has also converted E-Resources A-Z portal, LibAnswers (waiting for migration to 2.0), and ILLiad. Next up: CONTENTdm, Diversity, Library Catalog (and then on to Special Collections). Hoorah! Congratulations Beth and Dylan! Also – thanks to ERM, the Libraries are able to push alerts about access issues out to individual journal titles in the catalog. Users will now see the alert in the catalog entry – check out these examples (thanks for the update, Beth!).
