Martha Parker, digital services librarian for University of Arkansas Libraries, was the second archivist in the country to complete the new Arrangement & Description Certificate Program offered by the Society of American Archivists. It is her second certificate through the society, having completed the Digital Archives Certificate Program in April 2016.

“Heading the Digital Services Unit for the University of Arkansas Libraries is challenging, interesting and highly interactive work,” said Parker. “The training offered by the Society of American Archivists has afforded me the opportunity to deliver better digital projects and to plan the workload for the Digital Services Unit efficiently.”

Participants have 36 months to complete the eight-course program; Parker completed it in one year. The courses address specialized, advanced studies,  in addition to tactics and tools useful for arrangement, description, management and preservation. These skills can be applied to both digital and analog records.
