A number of publications from the Arkansas Water Resources Center are now available through the University of Arkansas Libraries’ institutional repository, ScholarWorks@UARK. This information is free to access and open to all.

Those researching current water quality issues with the Buffalo National River may take interest in the collection’s decades-old reports on the Buffalo’s water quality, land use in the watershed and more.

Current information on water quality throughout the state and technical publications are available now in ScholarWorks@UARK. Fact sheets, water quality data reports and newsletters are currently being uploaded to ScholarWorks@UARK and may be of use to researchers, state agencies and watershed organizations. These can be found on the AWRC Publications page in the meantime.

“These publications are afforded more discoverability through ScholarWorks@UARK’s search engine optimization and the inclusion of our repository’s content in the Digital Commons Network and other open access directories, such as Open Archives Initiative, Directory of Open Access Repositories, and Registry of Open Access Repositories,” said Melody Herr, head of Scholarly Communications. “Also, we have a technical team which ensures that our site remains available 24/7/365 and provides multiple layers of backup to prevent the loss of our website’s content.”

Visit the Research section of the AWRC website to see current efforts in Arkansas and the region.

The AWRC operates a fee-based water quality lab, where anyone can submit a water sample for analysis. Fact sheets are available to compare sample results to acceptable ranges for various components.

“I’m excited to have our technical reports available through ScholarWorks,” said Erin Scott, program manager for AWRC. “I’ve already seen some preliminary numbers on how many downloads those technical reports are receiving. ScholarWorks is a great platform for getting our valuable information to water managers and other stakeholders in Arkansas and even around the country.”

ScholarWorks@UARK highlights a growing collection of faculty publications, presentations, student work and teaching materials. The University of Arkansas is committed to disseminating its research and scholarship as widely as possible.
