The September 15, 2015 edition of the Tuesday Times includes news and updates for Libraries’ faculty and staff.

Adam Grant Campbell’s People, Places, and Thinks on Display Now

The walls in Mullins Library’s main lobby have a fresh look. Adam Grant Campbell’s People, Places, and Thinks went up on September 1.  The show is a series of portraits and landscapes curated especially for the University Libraries. Campbell recently completed a large mural next door to Nomad’s Music Lounge on School Ave, based on a piece in the show titled “Family Tree.”  And be sure to check out the equally fresh look of the Libraries’ online art exhibit space for more information on the artist. Thanks to the hard work of Martha Guirl-Phillips and Dylan Hurd, we’re one of the premier gallery spaces in town!

9/21-9/25: Academic Initiatives and Integrity’s Integrity Awareness Week 2015

University Librarians have contributed a diverse array of programming for the upcoming Integrity Awareness Week next week.  Topics range from Patricia Kirkwood’s “Copyright for the Graduate Student Author” to “No Excuses: Library Tools to Help You Cite Your Sources” from Beth Juhl.  Sarah Spiegel, Norma Johnson, and Necia Parker-Gibson are also offering workshops.  For a full line-up of the week’s events, visit honesty.uark.edu.

For Your Reference: The Princeton Review’s The Best 380 Colleges

The next For Your Reference book is on display, on the New Books display in Mullins Library’s main lobby.  U of A has been listed listed as one of the Best Colleges for more than 15 years, and the tradition continues in the 2016 edition. Take a look at what the book has to say, and then take a look at University Relations’ Newswire article.  Thanks, Norma!

Hispanic Heritage Month Starts Today!

A new book display, in the rotating book display located in Mullins Library’s main lobby, went up yesterday. Chosen by Martha Parker, Digital Services Librarian, the books celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.  Professor Juan Jose Bustamante, whose portraits will soon hang in South East hall, kicked off the Libraries’ Hispanic Heritage programming with a discussion about “The New Latinos,” the 4th episode in the landmark PBS documentary Latino Americans, last Thursday at FPL. The next Latino Americans: 500 Years of History event is scheduled for October 9th at the VA (more details will follow soon).  Save-the-date for “A Conversation with Rigoberta Menchu,” which will take place in the Walton Reading Room of Mullins Library, October 13 at 9am, part of this year’s Winthrop Rockefeller Distinguished Lecture programming.

GET INVOLVED!

  • FRIDAY!! Coloring Gathering at Mullins Library: Cedar Middleton invites everyone to color this Friday, 9/18 at 12pm in the Staff Lounge. (This is a day change from the usual meeting in order to celebrate the Razorbacks. Hogs themed pages will be provided! WPS!)
  • Join the Mullins Library Bulletin Board: With 200 of us working at the University Libraries it can be hard to keep—find out what’s going on in and around our community by joining the Mullins Library Bulletin Board on facebook. The group is sponsored by the Staff Concerns Committee and Geoffery Stark is the group’s admin.
  • Sharing is Caring: It’s always good to remind students to keep an eye on their belongings – and a great opportunity to remind them that if they share their tables with others, they might make new friends that can help watch their stuff if they have to leave for a moment.
