Celebrating the Illuminated Works of William Blake
A new exhibit is now on display in the Special Collections department of the University Libraries. ‘Celebrating the Illuminated Works of William Blake’ was curated by graduate student Amanda White, who will give a presentation on the materials used in the exhibit Thurs., Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. in the Special Collections Reading Room. The exhibit will be available for viewing through March 31.

Net Neutrality Q&A Panel
Although the prospect of retaining net neutrality protections in the United States is a timely concern for students, faculty and staff of the University of Arkansas, this moment also presents a broader opportunity to discuss how the Internet facilitates 21st century communication and information seeking. Attendees of this event will leave with an understanding that the Internet and in particular, the World Wide Web, are not merely means of consumption, but are also infrastructure that facilitate creativity, innovation, scholarship, and education.

The panel discussion, scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, in Gearhart Hall Auditorium, is an opportunity to gather and discuss the issues at stake in net neutrality rule-making and legislation. A Q&A panel format with campus voices from University Libraries, Information Technology Services, and the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will invite discussion of technical questions, but also consider how Internet governance influences democratic citizenship.

Help-A-Hog
While we are still working to finish up the Fall Semester, New Student & Family Programs is getting an early start on organizing Help-a-Hog for the start of the Spring Semester. Help-a-Hog is a great program that takes place on the first two days of the semester. Volunteers staff tables across campus to answer basic questions for new and lost hogs, and Mullins Library always hosts and staffs a table here in our west lobby. If you would like to be a part of this event, Kathleen Lehman, Head of User Services, invites you to use this link to view and claim open shifts. Please let her know if you have any questions by emailing kalehman@uark.edu, and thank you!

Congratulations, Tony!
According to ResearchGate, Tony Stankus’ publications have been cited in the work of over 250 authors. The 251st citation comes from his 2008 article, “It Is Not Just a Matter of Taste: 19th-Century Psychophysics and 21st-Century Sensory Evaluation Surveys of Food and Beverages.” The citation was made by Giolo Fele, a Professor at the University of Trento in Italy, and was published in Mutamento Politica, an Italian journal of Sociology published by the University of Florence.

CRL Primary Source Awards
Attention CRL member libraries: do you know someone or a team of people doing innovative work with primary sources? The Center for Research Library’s Primary Source Awards are presented annually in three categories: access (for promoting discovery and use of primary source materials), research (for innovative use in research projects), and teaching (for use in the classroom). This is a great way to acknowledge new trends and practices emerging across various research disciplines, as well as recognizing important library services to scholars.

Recently awarded projects include: “Umbra Search African American History,” a diverse special collection delivered by numerous institutions; “What Must Be Remembered,” a collaborative exhibition of objects and documents demonstrating the complexities of post- Civil War life for African Americans; and “Fighting the Atlantic Slave Trade,” an innovative student learning experience using primary sources related to early abolitionist movements.

Now is the time to nominate a colleague or yourself: nominations are due by January 31, 2018. Please Contact Virginia Kerr, CRL Communications and Development, with any questions. Download the 2018 Primary Source Awards poster to help promote this program locally.
