Editor from Libraries Unlimited to Give Presentation Next Tuesday
Melody Herr, Head of the Office of Scholarly Communication, asks: “Do you have ideas for a book about library and information science (LIS)? Do you want to learn what the “hot topics” in LIS are today?  Are you curious about what publishers do and how they make decisions?” Herr invites you to learn the answers to these questions – and many more – straight from book editor Jessica Gribble, the acquiring editor for Libraries Unlimited. Gribble attended the Publishing Institute at the University of Denver and has master’s degree in writing and publishing from Emerson College. She’s acquired books in Asian, European, and Latin American studies, U.S politics, women’s studies, sociology, education, issues (writ large), and library and information science. The presentation is on Tuesday, July 12, at 3pm in Mullins 102. Thanks, Melody!

Shipping & Receiving News: UPS Shipping Method
As Libraries’ staff is no doubt aware, shipping rates have increased steadily over time. In order to continue giving quality service, the Libraries’ Shipping and Receiving department has to adapt to these changing rates. Recently, UPS contracted with the state to offer better shipping rates than its competitors. Andre Brewer, Library Receiving Technician, reports that the Libraries will now be using UPS as a shipping resource. By utilizing both UPS and FedEx, Brewer reports, we can maximize our ability to ship packages at the best price. UPS allows us to see when a package has been shipped to us before it leaves its starting point, and they have upgraded our shipping technology free of charge. Staff can rest easy knowing that Shipping and Receiving will continue to provide quality service in light of this change. Thanks, Andre!

Olivia Wood snapshotThree Weird Questions with Olivia Michelle Wood
Olivia Wood was recently promoted to Reserves and Periodicals Specialist. Wood, who says in her bio that she was “Born to people. Might die someday, maybe” agreed to take a few moments to answer three weird questions for Tuesday Times editors. If you could have chosen the era in which you were born, which would you choose and why? “Definitely the turn of the 18th century Scotland. I would have won Culloden Moor.” If a genie gave you a wish, what would you wish for? “I have aspirations to attain Disney levels of villainy, so I guess I’d ask for whatever would get me up there with Ursula and Scar.” And what was your all-time, best-ever Halloween costume? When I was 9 or 10, I dressed up as the Ghost of Christmas Past. I donned a white sheet and my mom and aunt trussed me up with tinsel, ornaments, and all other manner of Christmas decoration. It was magnificent.” Up next for Wood? She’ll “either finish grad school, or take over the world, maybe both if I’m feeling motivated.” Get after it, Olivia!

Shout Out (n.) Informal. A message of congratulation, support, or appreciation.
“I would like to give a big shout out to everyone who helped with orientation tables and tours! I know it’s a long list, but the folks who volunteered their time to promote the Libraries’ services to incoming students and their families are: Arlyn Brazell, Donna Daniels, Tess Gibson, Norma Johnson, Phil Jones, Beth Juhl, Patricia Kirkwood, Jozef Laincz, Lora Lennertz, Rachel Linck, Elizabeth McKee, Kent Miller, Martha Parker, Necia Parker-Gibson, Rachel Paul, Stephanie Pierce, Richard Sakul, Sarah Spiegel, Tony Stankus, Jonathan Torres, Terry Wynn and Joshua Youngblood. Together we took over 300 people on tours of Mullins and spoke with 1068 people about the Libraries during information sessions.  This important outreach would not be possible without the great team effort! – Kathleen Lehman, User Experience Librarian. (This is a semi-regular feature for the Tuesday Times. Let your colleagues know how much you appreciate them by giving them a shout out in next week’s edition.)
