Jonathan Torres Creates Walton Readers Spotlight Video Series

Jonathan Torres, Business Librarian, is collaborating with the Walton College of Business to bring audiences, Walton Readers Spotlight.  Each semester he is conducting interviews with Walton’s faculty members who will share the books that inspire or interest them. Torres says, “The objective is to promote intellectual growth and empowerment through reading.” The interviews will air on YouTube, and daily on WCOB televisions. Torres’s first interview is with Dean Matt Waller, who discusses Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance. Great work, Jonathan!

 

Premier Event in the Latino Americans: 500 Years of History Series

Professor Juan Jose Bustamante will discuss The New Latinos, the 4th episode in the landmark PBS documentary Latino Americans, this Thursday, September 10 at 5:30pm at Fayetteville Public Library. The event will also feature snacks from Ayala Family Bakery in Springdale. Latino Americans: 500 Years of History, a public programming initiative produced by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA), is part of the NEH initiative, The Common Good: The Humanities in the Public Square. The event is free and open to the public, so please join us!

ICYMI: “Audio Delight” on Research Frontiers’ Blog Highlights Ozark Folksong Collection Opening

Chris Branam, Research Communications Writer and Editor for University Relations, attended the opening of the Ozark Folksong Collection last month and discussed Alan Spurgeon’s lecture, “Using the Parler Collection for Scholarly Research,” for Research Frontiers’ blog. Spurgeon, professor of music at the University of Mississippi, played several songs he had come across during his own research with the collection and Branam has included a list so readers can click through and listen too.

Did you know there are about 200 of us working at the University Libraries?  200 staff and faculty members crossing paths at all hours of the day in several buildings across campus!  Keep up with what’s going on in and around our community by joining the Mullins Library Bulletin Board on facebook.  The group is sponsored by the Staff Concerns Committee and Geoffery Stark is the group’s admin.

A recent meeting of the Libraries’ Coloring Gathering, a lunchtime group that meets weekly. You’ll learn about fun events like this one through the Mullins Library Bulletin Board.

  • Coloring Gathering at Mullins Library: Cedar Middleton invites everyone to color every Wednesday at 12pm in the Staff Lounge. Bring your own, or share the markers, pencils, coloring books, and other supplies.
