New Landmark Libraries 2016 Announced by Library Journal

Cat Wallack served as one of six judges for the 2016 New Landmark Libraries award for Library Journal. The award honors academic libraries that set the standard for both new construction and renovations, and is evaluated by six criteria: overall design and construction excellence, response to community context and constraints, sustainability, functionality, innovation, and beauty and delight. The contest revealed the following trends in academic library construction projects: data driven design, smart collection management, people-centered services, pedagogical prowess, life cycle thinking, visualization, and campus enhancement. The judges selected five winners and three honorable mentions, which can be viewed in The Library Journal.

Save the date!  April 4-5, 2017

The Libraries will host a research data management workshop on Tuesday, April 4, and Wednesday, April 5, 2017.  On 4 April, expert presenters will lead the full-day program “Building Your Research Data Management Toolkit: Integrating RDM into Your Liaison Work,” produced by the Association of College and Research Libraries.  On April 5, U of A researchers from the sciences and social sciences will hold panel discussions about the challenges of managing data. The program on this second day will end at noon. Library and information professionals as well as ITS staff, research office administrators, and others who provide research support services will find this workshop valuable. Thanks to a generous grant from the Greater Western Library Alliance, U of A Libraries is pleased to offer this event at no charge to participants. (No registration fee!) But registration is required. Additional information about registration, transportation, and hotel reservations will follow in subsequent announcements.

Please remember to COPY the person or people who are serving as your back-ups in your out-of-office emails to me. It provides not only an excellent last minute confirmation for you, but is also a handy way for me to procure the contact info that I add to each entry. Thank you!
