Welcome, Jonathan!
Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in New Jersey, business librarian Jonathan Torres has had a passion for research since his days as an undergraduate student at Rutgers University. Jonathan has had an interesting career path and has previously held jobs as a mortgage broker and HR recruiter for an insurance firm.

Three Weird Questions:

If you could be any superhero/comic book character, whom would you be and why?

I would be Superman! The ability to fly anywhere around the world would cut cost on plane tickets. This would be a HUGE money saver.

Describe yourself in three words.

Approachable, creative, gritty.

What’s the best live entertainment you’ve ever seen?

This is a tough question. I am a fan of combat sports. I’ve attended several boxing and mixed martial arts events. However, to be a spectator at a mixed martial art bout is truly exciting.

One of the best things about my job is that business research is always evolving. As a Business Librarian, I see myself playing a vital role in supporting the research needs of the students, staff, and faculty of the Walton College of Business.

Stop by Mullins 223A and say hello! Jonathan can also be reached at 5-4133 or jmtorres@uark.edu.

National Network of Libraries of Medicine
The University Libraries has just joined the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM), South Central Region. The NNLM provides high-quality, open access health information resources for teaching, research, and outreach.  In addition, it offers member institutions funding for outreach programs and equipment. Faculty and staff can participate in NNLM’s classes and workshops at no cost; individuals may also apply for professional development grants which can be used for attending conferences or taking classes.  These opportunities are not limited to personnel who work with health information. The Data Science Professional Development Award, for example, provides funding up to $2000.  Check out the NNLM website; then sign up for the email list so you don’t miss out!

Sarah Miles, Health Professions Coordinator, is coming to campus on Wednesday, 27 September 2017, to tell us more about what NNLM-SCR has to offer.  In the meantime, if you have questions, please contact Melody Herr, who serves as our liaison.

Special Collections Expo
We hope you’ll join us for a Special Collections Expo held in our department from 10-11 on August 16th! Modeled after the elementary school science fair, we’ll have different stations set up with items from the collections.

Be reunited with old favorites in the collections, and find new friends among our more recent acquisitions!

Our Outreach Team will be on hand to talk with you and answer questions.

We hope to see you there!

Reminder: Webcast
