NLWD16 Award RecipientsHappy National Library Workers Day!
I hope you had an opportunity to stop by the NLWD awards ceremony today in MULN’s Staff Lounge, or caught a few of the thanks and praises traveling around social media and the interwebs. This day celebrates YOU, so thank you for all that you do to make the Libraries successful and productive.  We’re also celebrating National Library Week this week by highlighting posts on 365 McIlroy that show how #LibrariesTransform. Today’s post is from NLWD Rookie of the Year Rachel Paul, from Performing Arts and Media, “What’s Google Got to Do with It?: Linked Data Transforms Library Catalog Searching.” Show some library love by sharing her post. And stay tuned all week long for more. The full list of winners this year includes:

  • Rookie of the Year: Ila Irizarry, Dean’s Office (nominated by Martha Guirl-Phillips)
    • “Ila is by no means a rookie in professional terms. She might be new here in the Libraries, but her professional experience has been valuable to us.”
  • Rookie of the Year: Rachel Paul, Performing Arts and (nominated by Tim Zou)
    • “Rachel’s diligent work and expertise has contributed directly into the transformation of the digital library services and information delivery method as well as putting the Libraries on the list of just a few academic libraries in the country to stream institutional concert recordings.”

    • “Olivia is a fantastic employee. She handles the desk well, and deals with even the most difficult patrons with a smile.”

    • “Christina is such a great asset to our department. She always goes beyond what is asked of her to make sure ILL continues to shine for our own patrons, as well as for other libraries borrowing our materials.”
  • Keystone Award: Deb Kulczak, Technical Services (nominated by Beth Juhl and Janet Parsch)
    • “Deb began to wear a considerable number of hats in 2015, exchanging and juggling them as the occasion arose, while continuing to offer amazing expertise on the specific issues of cataloging every day. She does this with considerable grace, fairness, patience, and good humor.”
  • Outstanding Support Service Award: Arlyn Brazell (nominated by Cole Davis)
    • “Arlyn is a real go getter. He’s really stepped up in the last year, taking on extra duties and responsibilities.”

    • All of the Serials employees pulled together to solve problems or improvise in areas where the Serials Supervisor would have provided guidance. Each person provided one piece of the puzzle for those problems.”
