Survey Published on User Engagement /Outreach Activities in Scholarly Communication
Co-chairs of the ACRL/STS committee on Scholarly communication, Luti Salisbury, Head of U of A’s Chemistry and Biochemistry Library, and Julie Speer, Assoc. Dean for Research and Informatics at Virginia Tech, worked with other scholarly communication committees to demonstrate the degree to which changes in the scholarly communication ecosystem are translated into change at the operational levels for librarians, identify challenges and assumptions about scholarly communication service activities, identify perceptions of and attitudes toward scholarly communication among members of these committees, and identify emerging and pressing issues.  The survey resulted in a peer-reviewed publication, “Science and Technology Librarians: User Engagement and Outreach Activities in the Area of Scholarly Communication” for Issues in Science and Technology Librarianship. Great work, Luti!

Earth Day MFA Poetry Reading This Friday at Noon
Please join Michelle Gibeault, English and Communication Librarian, on Friday at noon for the Earth Day MFA Poetry Reading. This is the second year for this special reading that celebrates local, creative work, the art of poetry, and one of the coolest MFA programs in the country. The reading takes place near the West entry steps to Mullins Library, on the NE corner of the Union mall. The event is free, open to the public, and co-hosted by the University Libraries and Fabula Bound. (And if you have the opportunity, please share the event invite on facebook.)

Arkansas’s Pulitzer Prize-Winning Poet, John Gould Fletcher
The Pulitzer Prize turns 100 this year. To help celebrate, Joshua Youngblood, Research and Outreach Services Librarian in Special Collections, put together a post introducing readers to the papers and book collection of Arkansas’s only Pulitzer-winning poet, John Gould Fletcher. Fletcher’s papers are held in the University Libraries’ Special Collections and Youngblood shares examples of manuscripts, letters, photos, and other materials available to researchers and the community.  One highlight, Youngblood scanned the first, handwritten draft of “London Nightfall” and sets it side by side with the published version.  Check it out over at 365 McIlroy.

Blog Roundup: National Library Week 2016
The Libraries celebrated National Library Week with a series of blog posts that all contributed a take on this year’s theme, Libraries Transform.  Rachel Paul of Performing Arts and Media, shared how linked data transforms library catalog searching in “What’s Google Got to Do with It?” Olivia Caillouet, a student in Bumpers College, shared a piece titled “Blackberries to Books: A Horticulture Perspective.” Amy Allen, University Archivist, traced the transformation of our library for a special Throwback Thursday post titled “University Libraries and Transformation – Our Growth From 1872 to Today.” And Dylan S. Milholen, also of Bumpers College, reflected on how changes in the Libraries since he became a student provided advantages and perks to his studies in “Libraries Do Transform: A Personal Voyage of Science and Study.” Support the hard work of these excellent writers by giving their posts a read!
